在Dr.Weil的网站上,有一位不知道退休后该干吗的老人问Dr.Weil如何保持头脑和记忆力敏锐,Dr.Weil建议,“the best mental workouts I can think of are learning a new computer operating system and learning a new language(最好的方法莫过于学用一个新的操作系统和学习一门语言)”。他说,学用一个新的操作系统,一开始可能会让你头疼和抓狂,可是当你了解到它的复杂和奇妙,它就向你敞开了一个新的世界,而学语言呢,你不必真要精通听说读写,因为在学习的过程中,头脑就已经得到了最大的锻炼。

1. Throw out nonessential numbers. This includes age, weight and height. Let the doctor worry about them. That is why you pay him/her.
别理会那些无关紧要的数字,比如你的年龄,体重和身高。让医生去操心吧,因为他们收了你的钱。
2. keep only cheerful friends. The grouches pull you down.
结交笑口常开的朋友,那些满腹牢骚的人也会使你唉声叹气。
3. keep learning. Learn more about the computer, crafts, gardening, whatever. Never let the brain die. “ An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. And the devil’s name is Alzheimer’s.”
学无止境,多学学电脑,手工,园艺等等,别让头脑闲着,“无所事事的头脑是魔鬼的工场,魔鬼的名字叫“痴呆症”。
4. enjoy the simple things.
享受简单的生活。
5. laugh often, long and loud. Laugh until you gasp for breath.

6. the tears happen. Endure, grieve, and move on. The only person who is with us our entire life, is ourselves. Be ALIVE while you are alive.
想哭就哭。忍耐和伤心过后,也要继续前行。真正与我们相伴一生的只有我们自己。活着就要活得五光十色。
7. Surround yourself with what you love, whether it’s family, pets, keepsakes, music, plants, hobbies, whatever. Your home is your refuge.
让周围充满了你的所爱,无论是家人,宠物,纪念品,音乐,植物,爱好等等,你的家就是你的避风港。
8. cherish your health: if it is good, preserve it. If it is unstable, improve it. If it is beyond what you can improve, get help.
珍惜健康。如果健康,就保持它,如果不健康,就好好调养,如果不懂,就查书、问人。
9. Don’t take guilt trips. Take a trip to the mall, to the next county, to a foreign country, but NOT to where the guilt is.
别走上犯罪道路。你可以去逛街,可以去邻近城市玩,可以出国旅行,但千万别踏上犯罪道路。
10. Tell the people you love that you love them, at every opportunity.
And always remember: life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
